Fife Brass Band Contest 2010

The band came fourth in the third section of the contest- not a bad result.  We had a fantastic day out and a great party at night.  We had karaoke on the go courtesy of Guptie Sing who is now booked for the bus to Harrogate.  Who would have known we had so many singers in the band- we are thinking of becoming a choir instead, ha ha.

Several members of the band even made it out their beds the next morning to go and fundraise at a car boot sale- thats dedication for you!

Adjudicators remarks are below. The text is small, so a translation is below (words in red are guesses!)

Red Castle.
Quick for me!! But quality evident - let 1 cornet player play big tune!? Detailed account here - lots of thought - well done MD. Lots of nice touches throughout. Well played!

Tuba
Big opening! and soloist plays with character and got a little technique! - could you be a touch more 'nonchalant' - it sounds a touch frantic to me! There is considerable energy and technique here from all - you're having fun - but the effect **** **** music? Think is looking for a bit of 'quiet checkinence' - and a bit of space and time is wanted more. Much to admire though!

Lament
Not easy this but soloist accentuates well. Pitch in cornets at D? All working hard here to do the hardest thing correctly - well done!

Adventures
Yes, big stuff is where you're happy! Try to keep everything as steady as you can - it does move! Some very good sounds evident throughout, which is why it's surprising when we lack that quality now and then (14-15, for instance). Big climatic close catches you up on dying last note!!

Very interesting - technique and enthusiasm to burn, great potential - always look for quality, rather than volume!

Thank You.
Signed: Alan Fernie.
