Many thanks to all who have supported the band over the past few months; we are grateful to everyone who has put in hard work and dedication to get back into the 3rd Section and give us the opportunity to represent Scotland in the finals for the first time in 10 years.
Another big congratulations goes to our Principal Cornet, Alan Taggart, who won the Best Soloist prize!
4barsRest, the Brass Band "Bible", said this following our performance:
"The early marker on the day was set by Irvine and Dreghorn Brass under the direction of David McKellar. Theirs was a good all round show from a very healthy sounding band which overcame a slightly tentative start to blossom. A classy Paris, atmospheric Rome and final romp through Moscow set them up very well indeed and they fully deserved to claim the second qualification place on offer. This was a very good performance.
No problems for the winners and qualifiers and Renfrew and Irvine should can be confident of more than holding their own at Harrogate come September."
As a result of this success, the band will be doing more fundraising events over the coming months, which we would like everyone's support. Details of any band activities will appear here soon, so keep an eye on the site and an ear to the ground!
Wedding Bells!
Congratulations are also due to our percussionist, Carrie, who got married to John Boax (who used to conduct the band) on Friday 4th April. It was a proper IDB occasion, as David McKellar was John's best man. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Boax from everyone at the band!
Photos of Carrie and John's big day will appear shorty.
